Beef
We run a small herd of suckler cows (mainly Charolais, Limousin and Hereford crosses) and also source calves and lambs from 2–3 trusted local, high-health farms to supplement our stock.
The animals graze our fields from May to November. In winter, they are housed to protect the land, and are fed clamp silage (cut grass stored under cover and allowed to ferment), harvested on the farm in early summer.
Our suckler calves are born between February and April, and stay with their mothers for nine months. By the time they are weaned, they are eating plenty of silage, weigh around 300 kg, and - quite frankly - their mothers are ready for a break! This rest period allows the cows time to recover before their next calf.
